bye

A few times I felt like ending an article with "bye for now" or something like that, and thought I'd put it here with a few site notes.

The family, wife and lawnmower, at least as mentioned or implied on this site, are all fictional.

I really did want to say something nicer about the elevators than the Dracula's castle stuff. A lot of people like them. They aren't very efficient and I'd have them on eBay as fast as I could get the listing up, but they are well maintained. They have some modern additions to the controls and tend to make a really nice impression. People sometimes ask if they can just go for a ride, and it was nice to notice one of them absorbed in looking at the solid brass ventilation details.

The elevator gets a lot of comments that it is fast which might be because you can see the floors going by right in front of you. The comments go right up to "I love this old elevator." I'm a bit careful with that one. "I do too, but of course just in a completely platonic, very manly sort of way."

I tried a few times but saying something nice just made a mess when it was put in with the rest of the goofy article, so this was the best I could do.

The furniture on the elevator joke gets the most comments of any I have ever told. They range from "Good luck!" to "Oh no, don't change a thing. I just love what you've done with the place! It looks fabulous!" It was fun telling the last woman "You get along really well with people, don't you?"

The full pot of coffee wasn't fictional, but it was done with a stomach toughened up by surviving years of my cooking and coffee. Without that background I wouldn't be surprised if the consequences could go right up to fatal, especially if there is a blood pressure problem, or who knows how many other problems. I just happened to run across that information while looking over some PhD papers at Harvard Med, ...or maybe it was on the back of a box of cornflakes.

Putting this together was a bit of an experience. I did have a couple of days working out the "Bicycling in Winter" accident details when I had a really nice feeling. "I'm going for a bike ride, and everybody better get out of my way," but I managed to not get carried away with it.

I sent a couple of good parts to mom when I started. I just crossed 60. She is getting up there, and has Alzheimer's. I was told she kept the letter out for days and read it a few times. It has always been pleasant between us, but that was really nice.

So I hope you enjoyed it too.

best wishes,
lloyd
